What Inspired the Design of this Site
The original station located in Angelica, NY was of wood construction.
Fire consumed this structure on Monday, January 24, 1910.
It was replaced by a brick structure that included ornate leaded glass windows.
This station lasted to the final days of the railroad and still stands today in 2016.
In coming up with a website design, the webmaster wanted to capture the feeling of the Angelica depot with its brick construction and leaded windows. The content of each page appears in the "window," with the brick walls around it.
The banner (station sign) at the top of the site was inspired by the way that the Shawmut painted its boxcars and reefers prior to WWI. A very large "SHAWMUT" was flanked by smaller "Pittsburg" "& Northern" lettering.
Both the Wells Fargo and Railway Express Companies operated over the Shawmut. All stations included signage similar to that shown here.
