Historic Marker to be Erected
ANGELICA—The Pittsburg, Shawmut and Northern Railroad Historical Society has initiated a project to install one of the iconic blue and yellow New York State Historic Markers at its museum, located on the Allegany County Fairgrounds in Angelica, NY.
The sign will commemorate the historical significance of its bobber caboose No. 175. The caboose, the only remaining example of a fleet of such cabooses, was constructed in 1911 by the PS&N, itself, at its shops located in the Village of Angelica. Until the advent of steel railroad cars in the 1920s, the Shawmut maintained an extensive carpentry shop where many of the wooden cars used by the “Shawmut Line” were constructed.
To support this project, the historical society has established a fund to raise money for the marker. Patrons wishing to donate to the fund can send a check or money order made payable to the Pittsburg, Shawmut and Northern Railroad Historical Society and mail to:
